Many people believe that it is the anniversary of the
independence of Mexico, but in reality it is the anniversary
of the military victory of Mexico over the French. This
victory played a key role in the U.S's own Civil War because
it destroyed the French army in Mexico and prevent them from
supplying the Confederate Troops. Many Union soldiers joined
the Mexican Army to help defeat the French and the American
Legion of Honor marched in the Victory Parade in Mexico,
City.
